The Geo Bucket application offers a simple and user-friendly way to engage in geocaching. After installing the application and logging in, users can easily populate their maps with caches by simply pressing the Live button located in the top right corner of the My Map view.
One of the standout features of Geo Bucket is its ability to store geocaches and maps directly on your iDevice, eliminating any concerns about roaming charges.
Within the application, users have access to a convenient My Map view where downloaded caches are displayed. Clicking on a cache reveals two available actions in the description section: the "i" button on the left provides detailed information about the cache, while the ">" arrow on the right presents a menu with various options.
There are multiple ways to import cache descriptions into the application:
- The easiest and fastest method is by pressing the Live button in the top right corner of the My Map view.
- Alternatively, users can download geocache descriptions via pocket queries using the PQ button in the top left corner of the My Map view, or by simply dragging and dropping Pocket query files from iTunes.
- Individual cache descriptions can also be downloaded directly from the Groundspeak Geocache website using either the Safari web browser or the embedded web browser within Geo Bucket.
- A pocket query zip file received through email can be clicked and opened directly within the application.
Geo Bucket seamlessly works with both free Groundspeak Geocache accounts and premium accounts. Users with a free account can download up to 3 full cache descriptions and 10,000 lite descriptions within a 24-hour period. Additionally, with a free account, the Live button is limited to downloading Traditional caches only. However, premium account holders can enjoy more extensive benefits, including the ability to download up to 6,000 full cache descriptions and 10,000 Lite cache descriptions of any type per day.
When downloading caches from the web using a free account, only LOC files, which contain location information, can be utilized. For those seeking more comprehensive cache details, such as difficulty, terrain, last logged comments, and hints, pocket queries and single cache GXP files are recommended.
An added advantage of Geo Bucket is that cache descriptions are stored in the iPad/iPhone flash memory, enabling users to go geocaching without requiring an internet connection. Furthermore, Pocket Queries and Live data can be used simultaneously for the same location without concerns about duplicate caches.
Detailed instructions for utilizing the application can be found on the support page at http://www.facebook.com/GeoBucket.
It is worth mentioning that the Groundspeak Geocache icons and "Powered by Live" are copyrighted by Groundspeak, Inc., and have been used under permission.
Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can significantly diminish battery life.
